Summary: On February 2, 2021, the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iaşi – the greatest place of worship in the capital of Moldavia – celebrated its historical patronal feast: the Lord’s Presentation at the Temple. The Holy Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Teofan, Archbishop of Iași and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina, alongside six other bishops. A limited number of worshippers attended the service celebrated inside the cathedral, observing the social distancing rules. After the Holy Gospel reading, the sermon was delivered by His Eminence Archbishop Ioachim, who spoke about the feast of the Lord’s Presentation at the Temple. At the end of the service, His Eminence Teofan, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina, delivered a brief address to the faithful attending the patronal feast. The historical patronal feast of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iaşi – the feast of Lord’s Presentation at the Temple (February 2), was inherited from Stratenia church, which used to stand on the spot of today’s edifice. Beside this patronal feast, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iaşi holds two other ones, as it is also dedicated to „Blessed Paraskevi” (October 14) and „The Holy Great Martyr George” (April 23) – the old cathedral’s patron saint. Another important feast is that of January 26, celebrating the Holy Hierarch Joseph the Merciful, Metropolitan of Moldavia, whose holy relics are laid inside the cathedral.
