The deepest liturgical period, that of the Triodion, corresponded in the year 2020 to the state of urgency which was imposed in Romania because of the New Coronavirus spreading. In the first stage, the performing of divine services was forbidden within closed spaces, then the participation of the believers was by no means allowed to the divine cult. The grief was the more so greater as the panic and fright of illness could not be soothed even near the church walls. His Beatitude Father Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, addressed to all the servants of the holy altars and to all the faithful of the Romanian Orthodox Church several pastoral words, in order to harden their belief and eucharistic communion, within the context of some polarizations and disputes about the method of receiving the eucharist during the pandemic period caused by the New Coronavirus (Covid-19); he also made up a special Prayer to put an end to the new epidemic, in order to be read before the Dismissal of the service. Referring to the new epidemic caused by the New Coronavirus, and to some measures imposed by the authorities, His Beatitude appealed to each of us to turn this period of medical crisis into a period of strengthening our faith and increasing our love for God and for our fellowmen. It is necessary that we should meditate more to the way we receive power from God by means of our penance of sins, our prayer, our reading the holy writs, our more frequent confession and generally by means of our good works. Do let us show love and make common cause with the old ones, or those living in isolation or those who are being kept in quarantine, and above all things let us care of everybody`s health. Let us also think much of the doctors in hospitals, who protect and cultivate the health of our bodies, and no less of the priests in churches, who protect and cultivate the health of our souls. Let us place full confidence in the power of prayer, knowing that “God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8, 26). The peace of soul, the kindness of heart, the communion in prayers, and the cooperation in good works, all these can work wonders, turning fear into courage and hope.
