Summary: The metropolitan Synod of the Metropolis of Wallachia and Dobruja assembled, on the 20th of May 2022, within a working meeting, in the Synodal Hall of the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Father Daniel, Patriarch of Romanian Orthodox Church. This working meeting was opened by His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel who presented the Synodal Tomos for proclaiming the canonization of Saint Venerable Teofana Basarab, which took place on the historical dedication day of the Patriarchal Cathedral, devoted to the Holy Emperors Constantine and Helen, as well as the liturgical texts of this saint venerable, published by the Biblical Institute for Orthodox Mission Publishing House of Bucharest. His Beatitude emphasized the need of pointing out, in this commemorative year, the Romanian hesychastic saints and their anchoretic dwelling places with hesychastic tradition, as well as the fact that such a canonization (as the one of Saint Venerable Teofana Basarab) agrees with this desideratum. His Beatitude also mentioned that “the hesychastic movement was a spiritual one, aiming at the renewal of the spiritual life through the agency of the Prayer of Heart, and the development of the translation from the Holy Fathers”. The agenda of this synodal metropolitan meeting also included the requirement of approval for the liturgical texts which would accompany the proposal of canonization of Venerable Varsanufie of Optina.
