Abstract: Prin conţinutul ei foarte realist, lucrarea Cartea Regulei Pastorale a Sfântului Grigore cel Mare, este mereu actuală. Ea face parte din categoria acelor cărţi rare, care oricât de mult ar fi citită, te întorci iarăşi cu multă plăcere să o reciteşti. Sfântul Leandru, episcop de Sevilla, când a primit această carte, a sărutat-o şi a răspândit-o în toată Spania. Împăratul Mauriciu a pus pe patriarhul Atanasie al Antiohiei să o traducă în limba greacă şi a devenit cel mai mare răspânditor al acestei cărţi în Orient. Alfred, regele Angliei, a tradus-o în limba saxonă. Incmar, arhiepiscop de Reims, aminteşte că, pe timpul său, la sfinţirile de preoţi şi episcopi, era obiceiul de a li se încredinţa Cartea Regulei Pastorale, cu îndrumarea: „Aşa să trăieşti, aşa să înveţi, așa să conduci, după cum scrie în carte”. Lucrarea Sfântului Grigore cel Mare este unul dintre cele mai valoroase tratate din literatura patristică despre sublimitatea, sarcinile şi greutăţile misiunii preoţeşti şi despre metodele clasice de pastoraţie. Ea va rămâne peste veacuri mereu actuală fiind, atât pentru cei ce se pregătesc să devină preoţi cât şi pentru preoţi, un nesecat izvor de inspiraţie, de meditaţie, o adevărată călăuză în pastoraţie.

Summary: “The Book of Pastoral Rule” is everlastingly actual owing to its very realistic content. It belongs to the sort of those rare books that one is supposed to always come back to and read it again, no matter often he has read it before. When he had received this book, Saint Leandes of Sevilla very reverentially kissed it and spread it all over Spain. Emperor Maurice entrusted Patriarch Athanasius of Antioch with the translation of this book into Greek and become the greatest propagator of it in the East. Alfred, King of England, had it translated into Saxon. Incmar, Archbishop of Reins, mentioned “The Book of Pastoral Rule” and bidder: “So you live, so you teach and so you govern as it is written down in this book!”. This masterpiece of Saint Gregory the Great is one of the most valuable traties in the patristic literature about the sublime, and also about the pastoral classical methods always remaining actual down the centuries, as well as a perennial source of inspiration and reflection, a true guide-book of pastoration for priests and those that prepare to be priests.
