CONTRIBUȚIA BISERICII LA REALIZAREA ACTULUI UNIRII DE LA 1 DECEMBRIE 1918/ THE CHURCH’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE GREAT UNION OF 1 DECEMBER 1918 – PR.

Summary: The clergy has always supported the people at the crucial moments in its history, encouraging its aspirations for a better life. The deeds of our predecessors can provide an edifying example for today’s priests, serving the superior interests of the nation and of the Motherland. The Union of 1 December 1918 had beneficial consequences for the Romanian Orthodox Church. On 18/31 December 1919, Bishop dr Miron Cristea of Caransebeș was elected as primate metropolitan of Romania, and in 1925, he became the first Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church. This allowed the uniform organization of the entire Romanian Orthodox Church. It was only natural, once the state unity had been achieved, to pursue the ecclesiastical unity of Transylvanian Romanians, a goal for which their predecessors, both clergy and lay, had fought and made sacrifices for over two centuries. This demonstrates that the Church clergy members fully did their duty to the people, and fostered all its aspirations towards its own national life, standing by the people during the harsh times of 1916-1918, as well as the lofty moments of 1 December 1918.
