Summary: On March 6th, 2023, the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate for Germany, Central and Northern Europe was officially granted the status of a public-law corporation in the federal state of Berlin. The ceremony took place in the Romanian Orthodox Church of Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Berlin. So far, our Metropolitanate has been granted this status in the states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hessen, Saarland and North Rhine-Westphalia. The status of a public-law corporation is the highest form of recognition that the German state can grant to a religious denomination. It is granted to large, well-organized churches (such as Catholic and Evangelical) with large numbers of believers, which are considered a long-term partner of the German state and have a positive influence in society. At the official ceremony on the evening of March 6th, 2023, the Berlin Senate was represented by Mr. Gerry Woop, State Secretary for European Affairs, accompanied by an official delegation. The Romanian Embassy in Germany was represented by Ambassador Adriana Stănescu, accompanied by Mr. Iulian Costache, Cultural Counselor Minister of the same institution, and other officials. Our Metropolitanate was represented by His Eminence Metropolitan Serafim, accompanied by Father Ioan Forga, the Archpriest for East Germany, as well as by all the active priests and deacons in Berlin, headed by Protosyncellus Clement Lodroman, head priest of the church where the event took place. Many faithful from the parishes in Berlin were also present.
