Abstract: Articolul prezintă personalități și vieți exemplare, și mai ales modele de ucenicii și iubiri admirabile, care au trecut demult proba timpului. Autorul zugrăvește una din cele mai lungi și admirabile relații de ucenicie, a sa în slujba patriarhului Justinian Marina. Întâlnirea dintre cei doi pornește din primele luni de slujire a tânărului patriarh, când Justinian avea de înfruntat un imens val de ură și neîncredere în interiorul Bisericii și se încheie în tumultuosul deceniu 8 al veacului trecut. Bartolomeu Valeriu Anania îl prezintă pe Patriarhul Justinian în diferite situaţii şi ipostaze, conturând personalitatea acestuia într-o perioadă istorică foarte dificilă, cu decizii dificil de luat. Mărturia scoate în lumină două personalități puternice, care se admiră reciproc și care au înțeles că prietenia dintre ei trebuie pusă la temelia Bisericii, ca un exemplu de renunțare și sacrificiu. Este o mărturie de primă mână despre cel de-al treilea Patriarh al Bisericii. Mitropolitul Bartolomeu a oferit cea mai completă mărturie, cea mai vie și autentică descriere a bucuriilor și frământărilor acestei mari personalități a Bisericii. Aceste mărturii vin să confirme odată în plus faptul că întâlnirile dintre oameni stau sub semnul unei tainice lucrări a lui Dumnezeu. O astfel de tainică lucrare l-a adus și pe tânărul monah Bartolomeu, alungat din Clujul universitar și refugiat în Mănăstirea Bistrița vâlceană, în vecinătatea celui de-al treilea patriarh al Bisericii Ortodoxe Române, alături de care a făcut istorie. Mitropolitul Bartolomeu Anania i-a fost șef de cabinet, bibliotecar, îndeplinind și alte funcții. Cu simțu-i rafinat, a observat zbuciumul acestui mare patriarh, care, pe de o parte, își slujea cu toată credincioșia biserica, iar, pe de altă parte, era nevoit pentru a o apăra să facă acte de diplomație cu puterea comunistă.

Summary: The present article presents exemplary personalities and lives, and particulary models of disciples and admirable loves, that stood long ago the test of time. The author portrays his long and wonderful appretienceship relation that attached him to Patriarch Justinian Marina. They both first met since the early months of the young patriarch`s ministry, when Justinian was putting a bold face on a huge wave of hatred and distrust inside the Church, and their relationship came to an end in the tumultous 8th decade of the past century. Bartolomeu Anania portrayed Patriarch Justinian in sundry situations and states, outlining his personality within a very difficult historical period, heavy with decisions hardly to take. The testimony that the article bears, brings to light two strong personalities who admired one another and realised that their friendship had to be set at the very foundations of the Church, as an example of renunciation and sacrifice. From this perspective, hierodeacon Bartolomeu`s appretienceship obstinately avoided the advantages which he would have obtained from his proximity to Patriarch of the Church, preffering to face hardships, chalenges, responsabilities, accusations, libels, and even prison, being fully aware that he asked nothing for himself. All these arguments only confirm the credibility of this testimony, and brings to light the image that the Patriarch was worth of, the more so as, even nowadays there are still remains the undeserved “red” shadow that Justinian`s contemporaries have thrown upon him. Metropolitan Bartolomeu`s article gave the most complete evidence of the third Patriarch of the Church, the liveliest and the most genuine description of the joys and anxieties of this great personality. This evidence is supposed to confirm once more thet God`s misterious work is the keynote of men`s encounter. Such a mysterious work brought the young monk Bartolomeu, having been expelled from the University of Cluj and taken refuge to the monastery of Bistrița, in the company of the third patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, by whom he made history. Metropolitan Bartolomeu Anania was Justinian`s private secretary, librarian, also holding other functions. Owing to his subtle spirit, he was an acute observer of this great patriarch`s anxiety and struggle, who, on the one hand, served most loyally his Church, and on the other hand was obliged to be tactful and diplomatic towards the communist power, just in order to protect his Church.
† Bartolomeu Anania (1921-2011) – a fost un cleric ortodox român și scriitor. Din 1993 și până la moarte a fost arhiepiscop al Arhiepiscopiei Vadului, Feleacului și Clujului (până în 2005 în cadrul Mitropoliei Ardealului). În anul 2006 a devenit primul mitropolit al Mitropoliei Clujului, Albei, Crișanei și Maramureșului. Membru de onoare al Academiei Române.
