Aniversarea unui deceniu de la întronizarea Patriarhului Kiril al Moscovei și al întregii Rusii/The 10th anniversary of the enthronement of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia (30 ianuarie - 2 februarie)

Pr. Eugen Rogoti

Between 30 January – 2 February 2019, His Eminence Metropolitan Nifon, Archbishop of Târgovişte, attended at Moscow the ceremonies celebrating the tenth anniversary of the enthronement of Patriarch Kirill. On this occasion Moscow received the visit of representatives (Patriarchs or their delegates) of the Patriarchates of Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia, as well as the Orthodox Churches of Poland and the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The most important moment of the events was the Holy Liturgy officiated in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, on 1 February. The service was led by His Beatitude John, Patriarch of Antioch. The Liturgy, celebrated in Slavonic, Arabic and English languages, was attended by Russian state officials, clergymen and laypersons. To conclude the service, Patriarch Kirill delivered a sermon that underscored the contribution of the entire Church of Russia – clergy and lay members, to the achievements of his tenure over these 10 years. His Beatitude thanked the heads of the sister Orthodox Churches, present at Moscow, as well as those who were unable to attend the events held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his enthronement. Patriarch Kirill then awarded several distinctions to Russian hierarchs to celebrate this anniversary.

Anaforaua liturgică - între tradiţie şi actualitate - (studiu introductiv)/The Liturgical Anaphora - between tradition and actuality
Diac. lector dr. Nicolae Preda

Keywords: Anaphora, tradition, prayer, eucharistic canon, sacrifice

The Liturgical Anaphora, also called the „Eucharistic Prayer”, is, without a doubt, one of the most researched themes in the field of Liturgics in general, and of the Comparative Liturgics in particular; confirmation of such a hypothesis may even occur after a simple consultation of the bibliography on this subject. Many things can be said about the Liturgical Anaphora, but we will confine to those aspects that will clarify the fundamental characteristics of this liturgical structure, such as its type, evolution, form, systematization and generalization.
If we were to „summarize” in a few words the meaning and importance of the Liturgical Anaphora, we should say, first of all, that it is the quintessence of our entire cult, being the center of the Holy Liturgy, the most important moment of a liturgical day, around which all the other worship ordinances gravitate , which has always been an important concern for the foundation of the whole Church.
We also want to point out that the most important aspect related to the structure of the Eucharistic Anaphora is its Trinitarian character par excellence, which exceptionally targets (fulfills) the „primordial” purpose of the Divine Liturgy, namely the „glorification of God”, the One in the Trinity „worshiped and glorified”.

Periplurile valorilor bibliofile din Mănăstirea Neamț, predate Bibliotecii Academiei Române/
The journey of bibliophile assets of Neamț Monastery, transferred to the Romanian Academy Library
Drd. Nicolae-Tiberiu Olariu

Keywords: Neamț Monastery, the Romanian Academy Library, religious patrimony, manuscripts,
inventory, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education, Nicolae Iorga

Throughout the troubled historical past of the Romanian people, the valuable items of our religious patrimony have been one of the most constant expressions of the creativity, ingenuity and steady efforts for the sake of culture, made by the members of the „angelic order of monasticism”. Calligraphers, miniaturists, hymnographers, typographers and translators of the holy writings, dwellers of monastic communities – true cultural centers, brought the „light of knowledge” imparted by books into the villages and towns of Romanian voivodates, with the blessing of their bishops and under the patronage of maecenas, mainly the voivodes and princes of yore. This patronage, intended to ensure the viability of cultural acts and activities conducted by the Church, set an example to be followed both by the high-ranking boyars of the Princely Chancellery, and by the administrators of lands received from the rulers, as rewards for their feats of arms or for their work in the service of the Country.
The cultural assets accumulated over time as a result of these efforts, were stored in the churches and later, in monastery collections of books or the specially designed spaces, constituting the most valuable possession of the worship places.
During late 19th century and early 20th century, a great part of this collection joined the patrimony of the Romanian Academy Library, an institution that was undertaking to develop and enhance its collections. This process of donating a significant portion of the movable cultural patrimony included the remarkable collection of Neamț Monastery, whose valuable books were transferred to the Romanian Academy Library at the order of the minister of Religious Affairs and Public Education, following an inventory and classification of these valuables, conducted by the university professor Nicolae Iorga, during the year 1900.

Biserica și satul românesc/Romanian Church and village
Pr. Ion SPIRU

The Romanian people and its emergence on the arena of history is a natural outcome of the existence of Romanian villages, long before they were attested to by documents. These villages were not recorded by documents because the harsh proto-history of the Romanian people was troubled by migrations. During all this time, the Church and priests (as well as other intellectuals of the rural areas) were active in the Romanian villages and around them; generation after generation lived, thought, and withstood all hardships. The pillar of support and the strength during those troubled times when history was written not in chancelleries, but on battlefields with the sword and blood, was the Church with her servants. During those times without a written history, we were still able to organize ourselves – however scarcely – around the Church. Here, in churches and near their priests, our written language evolved slowly but steadily, and thus the Church contributed to shaping the national consciousness. This is proved by the fact that, coming into contact with the Slavs and living close to them, we never changed what we already were: a people in its own right, with its own Romanian language and national awareness, like a strong tree with roots anchored deeply into the ancestral ground, whose sap incorported the Slavic elements. Generation after generation, our people learned to read and write in their own language, not a foreign one. These old and strong ties between Church and people prove and justify the trust and appreciation earned by our ancestral Church from the earliest times. The Church as been the matrix preserving and perpetuating our national language and consciousness. It is generally known that the priests shared the customs, language and life of the peasantry; outside the church they would wear the same clothes and they earned their living by working the land, growing cattle, doing the same age-old labor as the Romanian people. They shared the same vestments and language, and maintained their steadfast teachings: one God, one faith, one baptism and one right judgment. They preached the ancestral teachings and preserved the heritage passed down from fathers to sons, from mothers to daughters, so that no one presumed to think otherwise and go against these teachings. This sameness in thinking and living, by which the priests identified with the people, safeguarded the spiritual and national unity and overcame the alien factors that threatened this unity.
