Congresul Internațional de Teologie Relația dintre parohie și școală în viața și misiunea Bisericii din contextul actual/The International Congress of Theology The parish-school relationship in the life and mission of the Church today (19 - 20 octombrie) - Ioan Bușagă

The proceedings of the International Congress of Theology The parish-school relationship in the life and mission of the Church today took place between 19-20 October 2015, at „Dumitru Stăniloae” National Centre for Continuous Formation in Bucharest. The Congress was opened by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, who delivered an address entitled: Parish-School Collaboration, in the context of Church mission and its responsibility for the futuregenerations. The lectures included in the seven working sessions of the Congress were contributed by many experts and specialists of the academic theological realm in Romania and abroad. The event was attended by both professors of Religion, and many students in Theology. On this occasion were presented a number of realities challenging the Church in her mission today. The discussions addressed both the effects of globalization and secularization on today’s society, and the possibilities to employ the modern means of communication, in order to boost the missionary activity of the Church among the youth. The conclusions of the symposium were presented by Adrian Lemeni, Patriarchal counsellor, who stated that religious education and the parish-school relationship must live up to the missionary dimension of the Church.

Educaţia religioasă, temei al însănătoşirii sufleteşti/ Religious education, a ground for spiritual recovery

 - Arhim. Vasile MIRON

Keywords: faith, religious education, morality, spirituality, virtue, holiness

Religious education is a complex and noble action whose main purpose is the formation of Christian characters and personalities, through the systematic teaching of religious knowledges. In their turn, the religious ideas and precepts must undergo certain stages. They must pass through the mind’s horizon and through the heart’s filter, from the level of understanding, to that of conviction and feeling, and finally to their full practical accomplishment, because believing means to live what you believe. The main objective of religious education is the harmonious growth of the entire human being, considered in her integral structure: body and soul. Through this education, one pursues firstly the adornment of the divine image within each man, namely: the mind’s illumination, by transmitting the truths of faith, the raising the awareness of the heart, by developing the feeling of true and deep love for God and one’s neighbor, and persuading one’s will by working the virtues in everyday life. The means of inner shaping and transformation used by the Christian teacher must be joined with the efforts of self-education of the spiritual sons, who are generally faithful of all ages, who attend religious services and listen eagerly the word of God. The truth of the righteous faith illuminates and wises them, helping their understanding of the true reason of being. This sense of priority must be understood and lived in an indissoluble unity with love, as the Apostle says: “speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things” (Ephesians 4, 15). God – the supreme Good is the pattern of love. He is absolute Goodness, the standard for shaping the beauty of the divine image within each man. After the fall of the first men, the image and complete likeness with God was discovered to us through the divine-human Person of the Son of God incarnated, our Lord Jesus Christ. We are fulfilled as human beings in His image. He is our Archetype and Pedagogue, after which we raise our spiritual life, founded on truth and love (John 15, 13; 14, 6). Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christian education. On Him, on His life and in His Church is humanity regenerated from a moral point of view (1 Corinthians 3, 11). It is on this original background of the restored image in Christ that we establish the system of religious education. Only then will we manage to achieve man’s redemption from sin, by separating him from the terrible captivity of the human affections and lusts that rule and pervert him. We achieve this supreme ideal through a permanent and perseverant education, supported by the divine grace, looking unto Christ, “the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12, 2). Therefore, the pattern of our moral and religious accomplishment is not a simple human pattern, but a divine-human one – the God-Man – Jesus Christ. On Him, on this Pattern we establish the education, in His redeeming Church, by confessing Him in integrity and raising us through the word of His Gospel, through His Holy Sacraments, through prayer, through the holy virtues and by crucifying our own affections and sins (Galatians 5, 24), in order to make the image of God shine from within us and to be reborn from sin to the new life in Christ, “for we are His workmanship, created unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2, 10).

„Trisaghionul pentru cei morţi” – un formular „inedit” al Abaţiei din Grottaferrata/ The “Trisagion for the dead” – an “inedited” volume of the Abbey of Grottaferrata - Nicolae PREDA

Keywords: divine service, prayers for the dead, troparion, Trisagion, Grottaferrata

The present study presents some aspects concerning this structure of the divine service, named “The Service of the Trisagion for the reposed”, clarifying, on the one hand, the ancient practice of the Church, and on the other, reinforcing the elements and acts of the current liturgical practice. Although the author’s intention is to simply indicate the order of this service, without undertaking a complete analysis, it still draws attention to certain aspects of this order. This service is an important part of the orders of the public cult of our Church, being at the same time capable to show us the manner in which some cult elements were “transferred” from one tradition to another, more precisely from the Studite (Constantinopolitan) to the Sabaite (Palestinian) one. The Chasoslov or Horologion edited in the Abbey of Grottaferrata in 1950   presents a special order of the “Trisagion for the reposed”, different from the one presented by our service books.

Festivităţile prilejuite de împlinirea a 1000 ani de la mutarea la Domnul a Sfântului Cneaz Vladimir, Botezătorul Rusiei/ he festivities on the occasion of celebration of 1000 years since the death of Saint Great Prince Vladimir, the Baptizer of Russia

Between 27 and 28 July, 2015, on the occasion of the celebration of 1000 years since the death of Saint Great Prince Vladimir, the Baptizer of Russia, ample religious manifestation took place in Moscow. Approximatively 300 hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church attended, on July 28, 2015, the Holy Liturgy celebrated by His Beatitude Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus’, in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. They were joined by representatives of Orthodox Churches worldwide. The Romanian Orthodox Church was represented by His Eminence Metropolitan Nifon, Archbishop of Târgovişte and Patriarchal Exarch, who presented the message of His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel for this event. Also, His Eminence offered Patriarch Kirill an icon of Saint John Chrysostom, as well as the medal made on the occasion of the Commemorative Year of Saint John Chrysostom in the Romanian Patriarchy. Both Patriarch Kirill and President Vladimir Putin underlined, in their messages, the fact that this is not a purely religious celebration, but a cultural and national holyday of the whole Russian nation. Therefore, after the Holy Liturgy, a  Te Deum sermon was officiated to thank the Good Lord for all the gifts He bestowed during the ten centuries of Christian life of the Russian people, during which the flags held by officers of the Russian Army were symbolically consecrated with the icon of Saint Vladimir; the flags will be sent to each region which is part of the Russian Federation today.
